HURON RIVER CLEAN-UP DAY CANCELLED FOR SATURDAY, APRIL 30TH AND RE-SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, JULY 30TH

At its meeting last night, the Hamburg Flood Prevention Committee reviewed the rising and fast water situation in the Huron River, and decided to cancel the Hamburg Township Huron River Clean-Up Day event scheduled for this Saturday, April 30th and re-scheduled it for Saturday, July 30th.

The high water doesn't allow pontoon boats access to parts of the river when volunteers would be working because the boats can't get under the bridges, and the fast, cold water (54 degrees F) creates an environment for volunteers to work in that is very dangerous.

The NOAA Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service continues to forecast water levels reaching 6.0 feet by Friday, April 29th/Saturday, April 30th and holding steady at that level through Monday, May 2nd.

The "Annual Huron River Clean-Up Day" has been re-scheduled from Saturday, April 30, 2011 to Saturday, July 30, 2011from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Volunteers wishing to help with the Clean-Up Day are asked to call Brenda Richardson, Township Information Specialist, to register via phone at 810-231-1000 Ext. 212 or via e-mail - brichardson@hamburg.mi.us .

Work Locations:  Work will be done in parts of the 5 segments of the Huron River.

Also needed are rowboats with oars, pontoon boats, work/rubber gloves, garbage bags, food, waders, and life jackets.
