- 1:04: ANNENBERG CHANNEL: AMERICA'S HISTORY: CONTESTED
RESOURCES - ANTEBELLUM REFORM: 7. Contested Territories:
The United States acquired vast territories between
the time of the Revolution and the Civil War, paying
a price economically, socially, and politically. This
unit examines the forces that drove such rapid expansion,
the settlers moving into these regions, and the impact
on the Native Americans already there. (This unit includes
a facilitator guide, video, and online text chapter.)
Program 8. Antebellum Reform As a response to increasing
social ills, the nineteenth century generated reform
movements: temperance, abolition, school and prison
reform, as well as others. This unit traces the emergence
of reform movements instigated by the Second Great Awakening
and the impact these movements had on American culture.
(This unit includes a facilitator guide, video, and
online text chapter.)
- 1:59: ANNENBERG CHANNEL: PRIMARY SOURCES: THE AMERICAN
REVOLUTION: POWER OF THE PRINTED WORD: Workshop 2. Common
Sense and the American Revolution: The Power of the
Printed Word
with Pauline Maier, Massachusetts Institute of Technology:
This workshop explores the power and importance of America’s
first "best-seller." Using
the language of ordinary people, Thomas Paine’s
Common Sense called for revolution, challenging many
assumptions about government and the colonies’ relationship
with England. This workshop contrasts the declarations
of local communities with Common Sense to see how support
for American independence rose up in the colonies.
- 2:56: Community Bulletin Board News
- 3:04:PEG MEDIA: "HOT & COLD" - Hot
and Cold is about building and renovating houses as
well as updating with new types of insulation and alternative
energy. It's somewhat the tone of a This Old House,
but in Hot and Cold, the host, Tom Gocze, is the expert
and does the work. Tom gets his hands dirty as he explains
how homeowners can do a lot of the work themselves or
be more knowledgable if they were to hire someone. This
show is excellent and would rank among the top in community
television in interest to the audience and applicability
to a wide audience. The production is single camera,
but very good quality video, audio and content. A number
of shows are currently uploaded with many more to come.
This show is shot in Maine, but can play anywhere there
are houses. Program 1 - Insulation - Part 1; Program

ago the Community Television Association of Maine received
five seasons of a show entitled "Bushvisions Australia." Since
the mailing address for CTAM is near South Portland
Community Television, the greedy folks at SPC-TV swiped
the series and have been programming episodes of Bushvisions
ever since. But guilt got the better of the SPC-TV staff
and in accordance with the wishes of its producers,
the show is being made available to all CTAM stations. "Bushvisions
Australia" is about life in rural Australia and
is broadcast to communities across that continent. It
is a unique insight into what local access looks like
on the other side of the planet, and features everything
from auto-racing to cheese-making. PROGRAMS 7 AND 8
