General cemetery information, including names of persons buried in Hamburg Township Cemeteries, can be obtained by calling the Clerk's office during regular business hours at 810-231-1000 Ext.207.

Other Vital Statistics (birth and death records) are available through the office of the Livingston County Clerk at 517-546-0500.

There are three maintained cemeteries in Hamburg Township:

1) Placeway Cemetery on M-36 at Chambers Road three miles east of the Village of Pinckney
2) North Hamburg Cemetery at Pettysville and Swarthout Roads
3) South Hamburg Cemetery at Hamburg Road and Strawberry Lake Road


At Hamburg's Mausoleum and Cemeteries, you can choose:

  • Full Casket Burials below ground in a single grave or family lot
  • Interment of Cremated Remains below ground.
  • Above Ground Burials in Crypts in our Granite Mausoleum
  • Above Ground Burials in Niches in our Granite Mausoelum.

Our Granite Mausoleum is clean, dry and vented.  No water damage.

The following is an excerpt from Ordinance 32-B, the Hamburg Cemetery Ordinance:

Section 2: Definitions of Cemetery Lots and Burial Spaces

A cemetery lot shall consist of one burial space or two cremains.

An adult burial space shall consist of land area four (4) feet wide and nine (9) feet in length.

Cremains are cremated human remains.

Mausoleum crypts/niches are above ground entombment units for human remains/cremains.

Section 7: Interment Regulations
Only one body with one cremains may be buried in a burial space, two children buried at the same time, or two cremains.

Not less than 36‐hour notice shall be given in advance of any time of any funeral to allow for the opening of the burial space.

The appropriate permit for the burial space involved, together with the appropriate identification of the person to be buried therein, where necessary, shall be presented to either the cemetery sexton or the Township Clerk prior to interment. Where such permit has been lost or destroyed, the Township

Clerk shall determine if the person has the legal right to be buried in the burial space before interment is commenced.

The surface of all graves shall be kept in an orderly and neat appearing manner within the confines of the burial space involved

Section 12: Vault

All burials shall be within a standard concrete vault (which meets all applicable laws) installed or constructed in each burial space before interment. Vaults or other suitable materials may be allowed at the discretion of the Township sexton if allowed by law.
Cremains shall be in a container approved by the Township.

Section 13: Cemetery Hours

The cemetery shall be open to the general public April 1 to September 30 from the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. of each day; October 1 to March 31 from the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. of each day.

No person shall be permitted in the Township cemeteries at any time other than the foregoing hours, except upon permission of the Township Clerk or the sexton of the cemetery.
