OLSHA'S  FORECLOSURE HELP

The Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency and local Livingston County libraries offer free information bags to help those who are facing foreclosure. The bags are available at the libraries in Brighton, Hartland Township, Fowlerville, Pinckney, Howell and Hamburg Township. Call (517) 546-8500.

ABORTION RECOVERY SUPPORT GROUPS FORMING

A post-abortion recovery group is forming up. The small, confidential group will meet at a private location to ensure confidentiality. The program, led by a trained facilitator, extends healing and restoration through group or individual sessions. SATURDAY, JULY 31ST:  GOLF SCRAMBLE FOR 4-H AT CHEMUNG HILLS GOLF CLUB

There will be a Golf Scramble at Chemung Hills Golf Club, starting 9am on July 31st. The event will raise funds for the Livingston County 4-H Horse Program. Art at the Library is a juried series of 2 and 3-D shows at the Brighton District Library. The series is a collaborative endeavor between the Brighton Art Guild and the Friends of the Brighton District Library. AUGUST 7TH: HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION DAY AT LIVINGSTON COUNTY DEPT OF SOLID WORKS

Aug. 7 - Hazardous waste collection. Livingston County Dept. of Public Works holds a free collection day for household hazardous waste from Livingston County residents from 9 a.m. to noon by appointment only. Household hazardous waste such as motor oil, herbicides, gasoline, compact fluorescent bulbs, mercury, etc. are accepted. Call (517) 545-9609 to make an appointment.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 7TH:  AMERICAN LEGION CAR SHOW

Sons of the America Legion Post 141 of Howell is sponsoring the 11th Annual Charity Classic Car Show on August 7th. Registration begins at 10am, $15 per car, cars must be registered by noon to be judged. The first 50 cars will receive dash plaques. The event offers door prizes, trophies, food and beverages are also available. Judging will be announced at 3pm. Money raised will be used for Livingston County Veterans. National Christian recording artist and worship leader Matt Maher will perform a concert Friday, August 13th, at 8pm at the St. Mary Parish Grounds located at 10601 Dexter Pinckney Rd., Pinckney. This concert is open to all ages, donations will be encouraged during the performance to support Faith Medical Clinic of Pinckney. Cruise-in. Pinckney American Legion Post 419 holds a car show from 5-8 p.m. the second Thursday of the month through September at 9807 Whitewood Road, south of M-36 in Hamburg Township. SATURDAY, AUGUST 14TH:  PINCKNEY K OF C GOLF OUTING AT RUSH LAKE HILLS GOLF COURSE

The 13th annual Pinckney Knights of Columbus golf outing takes place at Rush Lake Hills Golf Course at 3199 Rush Lake Road in Hamburg Township. The event begins with a 7 a.m. continental breakfast followed by a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Cost is $88 per person or $350 for a team of four and includes golfing, breakfast, lunch at the turn, food and beverages after golfing, raffles and contest prizes including a chance to win a lease of a 2010 Dodge Journey. AUGUST 14TH-15TH:  COLONIAL KENSINGTON

Colonial Kensington. British and French settlers and Native American re-enactors bring Michigan’s history to life at Martindale Beach in Kensington Metropark, a few miles east of Brighton at 2240 W. Buno Road in Brighton Township. Highlights of the event include more than 200 costumed American Indian, French, British and American re-enactors representing the years 1700-1796; 18th century merchants selling authentic and reproduction home decorations, clothing and toys; stringed instrument music and Punch and Judy theater entertainment; battle and tactical demonstrations with musket and cannon firings; and a variety of 18th century crafts and demonstrations including carpentry, medicine, blacksmith, tinsmith, candle making, cooking, quilting, sewing, woodcarving and storytelling. WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18TH:  UNITED WAY DAY OF CARING

The 9th annual Livingston County United Way Day of Caring is Wednesday, August 18th. Thousands of volunteers are needed around the county. Volunteers can choose to sign up for a morning or afternoon shift, or all day. All skill levels are welcome. Adults and high-school aged individuals are encouraged to participate. THURSDAY, AUGUST 19TH:  "IRON CHEF" COMPETITION TO BENEFIT GLEANERS FOOD BANK

Join Gleaners for their 6th annual Iron Chef Competition that raises funds for Livingston County families in need on August 19th. The competition will be held at Bordine Nursery located at 6347 Grand River Ave. in Brighton. Bordines will be transformed into kitchen stadium and the event begins at 6:30pm. The reigning 2009 Iron Chef Steve Pilon from Oak Pointe Country Club will battle Chef James McNulty of the Downtown Main Martini Bar & Grille in Brighton for the 2010 title of Gleaners Iron Chef. THURSDAY, AUGUST 19TH:  MELON BALL AT MCPHERSON MANSION

The 1st Melon Ball will be held on Thursday, August 19th from 7pm-11pm at the McPherson Mansion in Howell. The Melon Ball is the kick-off social event to the annual Melon Festival in downtown Howell. Tickets are $30 in advance and include entertainment, food, commemorative flute and champagne. The Melon King and Queen will also be crowned at the Melon Ball. FRIDAY, AUGUST 20TH:  FINE ART SHOW AT OPERA HOUSE

The Livingston Arts Council is hosting its 8th Annual Fine Art Show at The Opera House during the Howell Melon Festival, August 20th, 21st, and 22nd. The Fine Art Show will be held on the first floor of The Opera House, 123 W. Grand River in historic downtown Howell. The mixed media show will include watercolor, oil, sculpture, fiber art, jewelry, woodworking, and photography. All art will be available for sale and artists will be on site to discuss their work. FRIDAY, AUGUST 20TH:  HOWELL MELON RUN

The 33rd Annual Melon Run is August 20th. This scenic and beautiful run/walk will take place through residential streets, Lakeview Cemetery and Howell City Park. The race starts and finishes in downtown Howell. Bring the whole family to enjoy all the special events including the Melon Roll, Tot Trot, Melon Dash, and the One Mile Fun Run/Walk. SATURDAY, AUGUST 21ST:  FREE "YOUNG EAGLE" FLIGHT DAY AT LIVINGSTON COUNTY AIRPORT

EAA Chapter 384 Young Eagles program offers free airplane rides with an experienced pilot to kids between the ages 8-17 yrs. The child's parent/guardian must be present. SATURDAY, AUGUST 21ST:  MELON RIDE

Melon Ride. The second annual Doc May Commemorative Melon Ride, a 15-mile bike ride through neighborhoods and trails in Howell, runs from 9-11 a.m. beginning at the Livingston County Courthouse on Grand River Ave. in downtown Howell. All riders will receive a route map and a Doc May Commemorative Melon Ride 2010 T-shirt. Cost is $15 for early registrants or $20 on event day. MONDAY, AUGUST 23RD:  TRI AT THE TAVERN WITH PINCKNEY AQUATIC CLUB

MONDAY, AUGUST 23RD:  BRIGHTON DANCE FESTIVAL

Registration is now open for the first annual Brighton Dance Festival, August 23rd–28th, hosted by the non-profit professional dance company Michigan Dance Project. Festival registration includes daily classes and rehearsals, plus a performance at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts. Participants must be 12 years of age or older with a minimum of four years prior dance training. Tuition is $150 per student, due by August 16th, 2010. Sloppy joes and karaoke. The American Legion serves sloppy joes and Boston coolers from 5-8 p.m. at the Pinckney Memorial Post 419, 9807 Whitewood Road, south of M-36 in Hamburg Township.
