


The Lakelands Trail State Park in Hamburg Township is maintained and operated by Hamburg Township Parks & Recreation through a parks millage in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and The Great Lake-To-Lake Trails Project.
No state park permit is required to use the trail; however, special events require approval through the Hamburg Township Board of Trustees.
The Hamburg Township section of the Trail is a trail approximately 6 miles long. Trail improvements were designed and worked on by a partnership of MI-DNR, Hamburg Township and the Friends of the Lakelands Trail.
The Lakelands Trail State Park traverses Hamburg Township in a manner which is mostly parallel to M-36.Parking Areas
There are three parking areas for vehicles along the trail area in Hamburg Township that allow for easy access to the trail:
- Merrill Trailhead is located in West Bennett Park off of Merrill Road.
- Pettysville Trailhead is located at the south side of the intersection of M-36 and Pettysville Road.
- Village Trailhead is located off of Hamburg Road and adjacent to Winkelhaus Park.
