Special Response Team - Hamburg Township Police Department

Special Response Team - Hamburg Township Police Department

The Hamburg Township Police Department is a member of the Southeast Livingston Special Response Team and has 5 officers assigned to the team (4 tactical officers and 1 hostage negotiator). The team is made up of officers from the City of Brighton Police Department, Hamburg Township Police Department and the Green Oak Township Police Department.

The purpose of the Special Response Team is to reduce the risk of injury or loss of life to citizens, police officers and suspects in extraordinarily dangerous situations. Special Response Team officers are highly skilled and specially trained police tactical officers used during high-risk situations that utilize specialized tools and tactics, which are generally not available to the ordinary police officer, in order to safely resolve these situations. Examples of high-risk situations that necessitate the use of Special Response Team officers include barricaded gunman situations and the execution of high-risk search warrants.

Since the formation of this combined Special Response Team in 2012, the team has been utilized 14 times (9 times for a barricaded subject and 5 times for a high-risk warrant service).
