The White Lodge Historical Committee is researching a building on its property that dates back to the early 20th century in hopes of possibly making it a historical site.
The committee is hoping the public can shed some more light on the building at 3630 Colonial Drive in Hamburg Township.
White Lodge Historical Committee Chairman Terry Hahn said any public information — what it was used for, who used it and any other helpful information — would be greatly appreciated.
Those with information can e-mail him at hahninc@chartermi.net.
"We don't know much about the building, but we know there's some history there; it's just a matter of researching it all," Hahn said. "This is how we want to get things started. We'd like to get word out to the public to find people who might have information or photos from the past we could use."
The nonprofit organization farms out the 5,000-square-foot building for use in the community for donations. It has six bedrooms upstairs, and overlooks Cordley Lake. Its old-style look includes eight 20-foot beams that make up the building's front facade.
Hahn said a day camp used to operate out of the building, and that he's heard the community used to have square dances in it.
Though the committee has been in existence for years, Hahn said it's only recently gotten serious with its membership.
The panel oversees the private 240-acre parcel, which includes 4,000 feet of waterfront on Corley and Gallagher lakes and the Huron River. It was originally a country club before its charter members purchased it, creating a privately owned community.
