- Hamburg Police Chief Steve Luciano presented certificates of appreciation
to key members of the community at last night’s meeting of the Hamburg
Township Board to recognize their contributions to the district’s anti-drug
campaign. Those honored included members of the police staff, Livingston County
Jail, and Pinckney School District, who collaborated to hold a drug education
program within the community. The four-step program included courses for police
officers, school employees, parents, and students, and has so far been given
to more than 500 members of Pinckney’s student body. The course included
meetings with heroin-users currently serving time in the Livingston County
Jail. Police Chief Steve Luciano says the response from students and parents
has been overwhelmingly positive, with the schools receiving numerous calls
and emails giving feedback or reporting information. He also says that education,
rather than enforcement, is the key to combating the drug issues facing the
district. More information on the program can be found at the Hamburg Police
Department’s website by clicking the link below. (TD)
