Hamburg's Man River Rescue of Toddler To Be Honored

1/12/11 - Funeral arrangements have been released for the four women killed in a News Photo 2/10/11 - The Livingston County Chapter of the American Red Cross will honor several local residents at its upcoming “Everyday Heroes” banquet. They are ordinary people from the community who have done extraordinary things, like Tom Campbell of Hamburg Township who saved a toddler from drowning. Campbell was working out of his home office on the Huron River last September when he heard screams coming from his neighbor’s house. As he rushed down to the water’s edge, he realized the woman’s 2-year-old daughter was missing, and had likely fallen in the water. He quickly climbed in the water, found the girl, and pulled her onto shore. Campbell tells WHMI he then called 911, as the girl wasn’t breathing, and followed the dispatcher’s instructions for performing CPR until emergency crews arrived. Campbell says a fire truck arrived within minutes, and paramedics took over caring for the girl. 911 Dispatcher Leanne Lowe, who walked Campbell through the steps for performing CPR, will also be honored as this year’s Workplace Hero. Authorities credit the teamwork between the two for saving the little girl’s life. They will be along the many honorees next Thursday, February 17th at the Salute To Everyday Heroes banquet at Crystal Gardens. details can be accessed through the link below. (JK)
