- Hamburg Township’s Police Chief is retiring. Chief Steve Luciano
made the announcement in a press release yesterday and says it was the
right time for him to look at other opportunities. He has since accepted
a position in corporate security in the private sector. Luciano came to
the department five years ago, which at the time had a questionable reputation.
Since then, Luciano is credited with bringing modern operating procedures
to the township while partnering with Pinckney Community Schools and implementing
programs in the wake of several recent drug-related deaths. During Luciano’s
tenure, he introduced community policing to the township and was known
for his upfront management style and despite tough economic times, Hamburg
residents approved millage to support police services in November of 2009.
Luciano tells WHMI that he’s very fortunate to have worked with
a great group of male and female officers that go out and do their jobs
as professionals every day. He adds that he is honored to have served
such a good community where business owners, school officials and residents
support both him and the entire department. Luciano came to the Hamburg
Department in July of 2006 and his final day will be March 18th. (JM)
