- A two part presentation in Pinckney tonight will focus on preventing youth
suicide. It’s being put on by the Pinckney Community Schools district
and will cover the warning signs of suicide, how to help someone who may
be suicidal and what parents can do to protect their children. Superintendent
Dan Danosky tells WHMI that a female student recently took her own life,
prompting the district along with its student and family specialists to put
together the program. Danosky says they heard concerns from parents, who
were also seeking to learn about how to talk to their kids on the topic.
He says no one wants to consider the possibility that their own child could
make the decision to take his or her own life but they recognize that it
can be a reality so they want people to know as much as they can about prevention.
The program will feature Jeff Edwards, a Brighton father who lost his son
to suicide years ago while the Washtenaw County Health Department will also
present its “Washtenaw Alive” program. This event is free and
open to the public but is targeting adults only. It will be held inside the
high school auditorium from 6:30 to 8pm. (JM)
