Dozens of Applications Collected So Far For Hamburg Police Chief

News Photo 4/6/11 - The process of choosing a new chief of police for Hamburg Township is now underway. Township Clerk Jim Neilson says that about 45 applications have already been submitted for the position, which became vacant with last month’s retirement of Chief Steve Luciano. Lieutenant Brian DeNoyer is serving as the department’s interim chief until a replacement is found. The board plans to advertise the opening at least through the month of April. The board will then utilize a consultant and panel of three outside law enforcement experts to eventually narrow it down to five semifinalists. The board will then further narrow it down to three finalists, and appoint the new chief from that group. Overall,Neilson says it should take 30-45 days after the applications are collected to select the new chief. Members of the board say that the qualifications for the position have gotten stricter due to the excellent performance of Chief Luciano over the past five years. (TD)
