- The recent wet weather has forced officials in Hamburg Township to cancel
a scheduled cleanup effort this weekend. At its meeting last night, the
Hamburg Flood Prevention Committee reviewed the rising and fast water situation
in the Huron River, and decided to cancel the Hamburg Township Huron River
Clean-Up Day scheduled for this Saturday, April 30th. It has now been re-scheduled
for Saturday, July 30th. Officials say the high water will prevent pontoon
boats from getting under bridges and gain access to portions of the river
where volunteers would be working. In addition, the water temperature of
approximately 54 degrees combined with the swift current makes it too dangerous
for volunteers. The National Weather Service continues to forecast water
levels reaching six feet by Friday and holding steady at that level through
the weekend. (JK)
