- Hamburg Township officials continue to monitor the Huron River as water
levels are expected to increase over the weekend and surpass flood stage.
The river was approaching six feet as of Friday afternoon and it’s
expected to rise another foot by Monday to 6.8 feet. 6.5 feet is considered
flood stage and that’s the point where area homes, docks, crawlspaces
and garages can be affected. Township Supervisor Pat Hohl tells WHMI that
they’ll be at the bottom of the classified flood stage so they don’t
expect any encroachment on homes but they'll continue to monitor the situation.
He says there’s no vegetation in the river this time of year and
short of any significant rainfall early next week, they expect the river
to drop rather quickly. It’s still early in the season and cool outside
but anytime the river is up, Hohl asks that boaters be considerate of neighbors
and keep wakes down around those who have water in their yards. Meanwhile,
the recent rain and rising waters have forced Hamburg Township to cancel
this weekend’s Huron River clean-up day, now rescheduled for late
July. (JM)
