- Funeral arrangements have been released for the four women killed in a
tragic accident last weekend. Barbara Pierson's Kia went off I-69, down an
embankment and landed on railroad tracks before a freight train smashed into
it in DeKalb County, Indiana. Pierson was killed, along with 19-year-old
twin daughters Bessie and Margaret and 14-year-old daughter Elizabeth. William,
the survivor, is Margaret's son. Friends believe it's a miracle that the
9-month-old child survived the crash. Lori Roberts says it's hard to believe
he’s alive with a broken leg after seeing pictures of the crash scene
Sunday. The Pierson’s were returning to Howell after a family trip
and authorities don't know why the SUV left the road. The family will receive
friends Thursday from noon until 8pm at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg
Chapel. A healing farewell will then take place at 11am Friday at the Fowlerville
United Brethren In Christ Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
are suggested to the family to help pay for final expenses. Donations can
be made at any Citizens Bank or 1st National Bank of Howell. Meanwhile, Medilodge
of Howell is hosting a luncheon fundraiser for the family as Barbara worked
there for nearly 20 years as a Dietary Cook Aide. Her daughter Margaret worked
there as well. The pasta luncheon will take place on Sunday, January 30th
from noon until 4pm at Medilodge of Howell. Broughton says in speaking with
staff and residents, they felt it was really important to hold the fundraiser
at the facility where Barbara and Margaret worked. You'll find more information
in the events section to the right of our webpage. (JM)
