- The application period for the position of Hamburg Township Police Chief
has ended, with officials now preparing for the next step in the process. Hamburg
Clerk Jim Neilson, who is heading up the search effort, said that as of Friday
they had 81 resumes for the position. Neilson tells WHMI that this week a team
made up of members from the township’s Personnel and Public Safety committees
will rate each of the candidates based on the established qualifications for
this job. The top 8 to 10 candidates will then be interviewed next week by
a panel of three experienced police officials from the State Police and other
municipalities. Based on the panel’s recommendations, township officials
will then select three candidates that will be interviewed in mid May by the
Townships Board of Trustees at a televised meeting, with the expectation that
the new chief will be named at that meeting. Former Chief Steve Luciano retired
March 18th after a five-year tenure to accept a position in the private sector.
Lt. Brian DeNoyer has been serving as the interim chief since then. (JK)
