Hamburg Township Police Chief Steve Luciano Retires
3/8/11, WHMI 93.5 FM- Hamburg Township’s
Police Chief is retiring. Chief Steve Luciano made the announcement in
a press release yesterday and says it was the right time for him to look
at other opportunities.
He has since accepted a position in corporate
security in the private sector. Luciano came to the department five years
ago, which at the time had a questionable reputation.
Since then, Luciano
is credited with bringing modern operating procedures to the township
while partnering with Pinckney Community Schools and implementing programs
in the wake of several recent drug-related deaths.
During Luciano’s
tenure, he introduced community policing to the township and was known
for his upfront management style and despite tough economic times, Hamburg
residents approved millage to support police services in November of
2009.
Luciano tells WHMI that he’s very
fortunate to have worked with a great group of male and female officers
that go out and do their jobs as professionals every day. He adds that
he is honored to have served such a good community where business owners,
school officials and residents support both him and the entire department.
Luciano came to the Hamburg Department
in July of 2006 and his final day will be March 18th. (JM)

Hamburg Police Chief Steps Aside For
New Job
03/08/2011 - Livingston County Daily Press & Argus
Hamburg Township's
top cop is leaving office March 18 for a job in the private sector.
Police Chief Steve Luciano told the Hamburg Township Board of Trustees
on Monday that he would be retiring from the position he's held since
July 2006, according to a police news release.
Luciano said Hamburg Township is "a great community" and
he's enjoyed "a tremendous
amount of support" from residents, business owners and
school officials.
In recent months, Luciano and Pinckney Community Schools have worked
together on educational anti-drug programs in the wake of drug-related
deaths that have rattled the community. Luciano is also credited with
introducing community policing that brings officers closer to residents
in an effort to identify and address public concerns, among other new
practices.
Another highlight of his tenure came in November 2009, when township
voters approved a 10-year, 1.5-mill tax to support police services.
"I'm very proud of the improvements we have made and the residents'
growing support of this department," he said. "I am very fortunate
to have had the opportunity to serve such a great community."
Luciano was retired from the Lansing Police Department when he took
the job in 2006, succeeding Robert Krichke.
