Three Hamburg Police Officers Complete Exclusive DEA Training

WHMI 93.5 FM - 3/6/12 - Three Hamburg Township police officers recently completed exclusive drug enforcement training. Officers Clint Pace, Tony Wallace and Matthew Duhaime attended the 40-hour program at the US Drug Enforcement Agency Training Academy in Virginia and received certification in clandestine laboratory investigations, specially pertaining to methamphetamine. In addition to gaining knowledge and skills, the officers also returned with equipment that can be used in drug-fighting efforts including full chemical suits and fire retardant suits along with air purifying respirators. The department says the cost of the training and equipment received by the officers is valued in excess of $25,000 but it also resulted in no cost to the local citizens as the entire trip was paid for by the DEA. The program is held only twice a year and is highly sought after by law enforcement officers from across the country as the DEA allocates a very limited number of spots for each training class. There were only 15 available for the division that includes Michigan and a press release issued by the Hamburg Police Department says it was able to secure three based on its longstanding and close working relationship with the DEA.
