ROUNDABOUT COMING TO HAMBURG TOWNSHIP
SUMMER 2009 ROAD CONSTRUCTION IN HAMBURG TOWNSHIP
Hamburg Officials Warn Motorists Of Summer Construction Headaches
FROM WHMI 93.5 FM- 10/15/08 - Hamburg Township officials are again reminding local motorists to brace themselves for what’s sure to be a traffic nightmare next summer.
Three intersection improvements will take place in late June of 2009. A right turn lane will be installed at the M-36 and Merrill Road intersection, a roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Hamburg Road and Winans Lake Road and improvements will also be made to the bridge on Hamburg Road.
However, the project of most concern to the township board at Tuesday night's meeting was the widening of M-36 at Pettys Road from Chilson Road west for a quarter of a mile, resulting in the full closure of M-36 for between 40 to 60 days.
As a result, traffic will be routed around Pettysville Road to Swarthout Road to Chilson Road and then back onto M-36.
Trustee Pat Hohl and incoming Supervisor recently met with the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Livingston County Road Commission. He expressed that this could pose problems for emergency response and public safety, later suggesting that a meeting be set up in late January with police, fire and school officials as well as the board and chamber of commerce.
Trustee Mike Bitondo also urged the public to patronize the local businesses, saying that a little extra time and gas will go a long way to ensure that they survive the construction. (JM)
