Games & Exercise
After careful consideration, Julie and I have come to the conclusion that it would be best to cancel the Walk Group until after March. We've looked at the pavement and even during mostly dry conditions, there is still a high probability of black ice due to the cold. We want to make sure everyone is safe so we will start up again in April.
Just a reminder!! We have 2 pool tables……….. a 9' and a 7' slate bed tables that have been professionally re-covered. The pool room is available all day 9:00 am thru 3:45 pm. Cue sticks & balls are available in the pool room or you can bring in your own!

Pinochle....Our Year In Review
Four years ago, as Deb and Gary Kaiser began hosting the Thursday pinochle games, a tally of the "Big Winners," those folks who won 1st place for a high series (all 8 games) and those who won the double pinochle pot, began being kept. The 3rd edition for that report follows!
Based on 49 weeks of playing fro9m 9-24-2015 to 9-8-2016, 27 different people won the high series and 28 different people won the double pinochle pot. The highest series this past year included five 800+ totals, forty-three 700+ games and one 600+ game. The "800 Club Winners" this year were Frank Berendt (830), Ken Pence (827 & 812 in back to back weeks!), Barb Deagen (814) and Patti Magda (800). And whom might you most like to be partnered with because of the frequency of their winning the high series each week? Gloria Church won first place 5 times followed by Frank Berendt (4 times), Russ Harris, Barb Deagen, Ida Fitzgerald and Hank Cadena all having been first place winners 3 times each., Shirley Dearth, Dan Nowakowski, Ken Pence, Marion & Ray DeRoo, Deb & Gary Kaiser have each come in first 2 times.
And who were the lucky 28 folks who took home the double pinochle pots? Gloria Church is again our big winner having won the pot 3 times, Shirley Dearth, Jean Chiado, Bev & Russ Harris, Marion DeRoo, Ida Fitzgerald, Donna Cook and Hank Cadena all won the pot twice. And who forget our newcomer, Shirley Browder, who came to play with us for the first time on August 11, 2016 and announced to the group that she felt beginners luck was on her side and went on to win the double pinochle pot for two consecutive weeks! Coincidentally, 7 new people came to play pinochle that day and another newcomer, Jim Robert, won first place on the same day!
A few other notables this past year include some amazing partnerships. Ida Fitzgerald and Deloris Stark shared a 151 points in a single game August 11 and Gary & Deb Kaiser earned 147 points in one hand without having a double pinochle in March. And then there was the team of Hank Cadena & Val Zapinski, who as partners, bid against one another while both having the same run in the same suit!
After pinochle, many of the players continuye to enjoy one another's company by going out to area restaurants and sharing a meal. "Supper Club" as this group has come to be known, has grown in membership and now commonly includes 14 or more people. Everyone is welcome to join the group, suggest different restaurants and share in the fun any time! A special Supper Club memory from this year was when the group met at Zukey Lake Tavern to celebrate the 65th wedding anniversary of Ray & Marion DeRoo!! . How lucky we all are to have this wonderful center and the company of so many lovely people to enjoy every Thursday from 12:30—3:30. If you haven't played pinochle with our group, sign up on the orange sheet in the lobby of the senior center and join the fun!
Just a reminder!! We have 2 pool tables..... a 9' and a 7' - slate tables that have been professionally re-covered. The pool room is available all day from 9 a.m. thru 4 p.m. Cue sticks & balls are available in the poolroom for your use, or your can bring in your own.
Anyone Play "Pitch?"
We have a few new members from out-of-state and some of them have asked me to ask around to see if there are any "Pitch" players. If so, then come in during our "Games" time and whoever is here to play then just go ahead and play "Pitch." Since I do not know the first thing about the game other than folks in New York enjoy the game, those of you who play will have to let me know what kind of cards the game requires. If it is simply a deck of playing cards then we got that!! Let the office know if you want to play and we'll get you set up.!
