Hamburg Township Master Plan for the Parks & Recreation and Senior Departments
The Township along with the Parks & Rec, Planning Commission and Zoning departments are working on updating the Master Plan (this needs to be done every 5 years and helps the township qualify for grants and other funding for Parks/Rec projects). Included in the Master Plan is the Senior Center so we are a big part of the Master Plan which means you are too. In order to implement phases of the Master Plan, the Township needs to know what to implement and that's where you all come in; your input is needed as residents of the Township and users of the Senior Center. We would like to know what is important to you as a senior and township resident and what should be done to make the Township a more senior-friendly place to live. At first I was going to put the survey that has been written for this in the this newsletter and originally it was going to be only around 10 questions on 3 pages ………….well, that changed and I no longer have enough room in the newsletter to put it in unless I delete everything in the newsletter except the front page. And, that's not gonna happen. So. I have printed off the survey and have it on the foyer table and if you would be so kind as to fill one out and leave it in the survey box I would really appreciate that. I need to turn the surveys into the Township by the middle of March so if y'all wouldn't mind filling it out and getting it done by then, I would really appreciate that!! There is also a web-link on our FB page and website. The survey is about 30 questions long and should take about 15 minutes to fill out. Thanks for all your help!!!

Shoes, Shoes and more Shoes
Shoes, Shoes and more Shoes…………..or what the heck is going on with all these shoes!!
I was contacted by Amanda Mortensen from the Country Elementary PTO regarding a shoe drive they are holding. The shoe drive raises monies for school events such as their Fall Fest, Family Prom, Field Day and educational school assemblies. It will also pay for school snacks during state tests, the school talent show, the secret Santa shop, March reading month activities and student "scholarships" that pay for students who cannot afford the field trips.
The PTO will receive $0.40 per pound of shoes and the shoes collected will be repurposed to people in developing nations. This sounds like a win-win situation to us………..helping the school kids, helping undeveloped nations and getting our shoes recycled for a really good purpose not to mention the fact that my closet is certainly going to get cleaned out!! Please help the school out and bring in your "gently used" or new shoes. There is a box in the coat hanging area for your shoes. I know y 'all are going to be great…………..look at the fantastic job y'all did with the toilet paper drive!! Thank You!!!
SSSSHHHH.....SNOW! ICE!!....AND OTHER ICKS!!!
SSSSShhhhhhhhh…….Snow! Ice !!…...and other ICKS!!! Winter is almost here BOO!! And that means Flu Season ……… colds ….….sore throats …………….yucky weather ……… the sniffles ……… and all the rest of the icky stuff that I really dislike is here!…………. So if you think the weather might be a little questionable and this includes extreme cold, ice & snow, please remember to call the center for a "closed" recording or check to see if the Pinckney Schools are closed due to WEATHER conditions. If they are closed …...…...then guess what?? So are WE!! And don't forget that this is Flu and Cold season so if you feel sick or "not just right" PLEASE PLEASE STAY HOME until you feel better and are not contagious anymore ...………...not only will you feel better faster; you won't spread any germs around to members who may be already health-compromised !!
Hamburg Seniors Share Bulletin Board - March 2017
"Sweethearts" was our photo board theme for February and it just seemed to be a natural lead in to sharing "Sweet Memories" for March. Let's share pictures of any sweet moments in your life that bring a smile to your face and warm flutter to your heart. Maybe it will be pictures of a person, place you visited, a vacation , an event held in your honor, and event that your attended that seemed especially memorable…….Anything goes this month!! Let's fill the board with photos and a short comment underneath letting us know the who, what, when and where that is involved. As always, all photos will be returned at the end of each month in the large envelope on the lower left corner of the photo board located next to our library. You are also welcome to suggest themes for upcoming months as well!

Newsletter Now Going Out Via Bulk Mail
You may have noticed that the newsletter is coming to you flat, not folded, may be just a wee bit late and not available in the center for pick up. Why is that?? Well, our printer has put us on the "bulk rate" for printing, which also means they mail it out with postage and label already preprinted on your newsletter. Hopefully you will get it on time, but do remember that at bulk rate, it is at the discretion of your mail carrier as to when they decided to deliver it. If they have a lot of bulk mail coming to you, they may decide to deliver it at a later date when there is less. At any rate, it is a lot less expensive to send them out this way so we hope this works out!
After careful consideration, Julie and I have come to the conclusion that it would be best to cancel the Walk Group until after March. We've looked at the pavement and even during mostly dry conditions, there is still a high probability of black ice due to the cold. We want to make sure everyone is safe so we will start up again in April.
Sweatshirts, Shirts & Hats - Oh My!!
I've had a red sweatshirt in my office that once belonged to a long-time member and folks have been asking where/ho they can get something like that since it is embroidered with our senior center logo. Well, wonder no more!! I've gotten some current pricing, colors and style of denim & performance shirts, sweatshires and hats. The sweatshirts come in 2 different weights (8 oz. & 9.3 oz.) and are priced at $25 & $35; 1/4 Zip Sweatshirts $24 (8 oz. only); denim shirts $24; performance tee's $20 and hats $10. Turnaround time is approximately 2-3 weeks and payment HAS to be made at the time of the order (cash or checks made out to The Hamburg Senior Center). Plus sizes do run a little higher. Julie, Carol and myself will have some samples of what each item looks like around the middle of October and we can place an order once a month or whever we get a decent amount of orders in. Any questions - just come on in or give me a call and we will do our best to get your questions answered.

St. Paddy's Day Pot Luck - Friday, March 17th
When: Friday, March 17th
Time: 12:00 pm
It's that time of the year again when leprechauns dance, fiddles fly and the Irish sing!! And we EAT!! Corned beef, cabbage, potatoes………….YUM!! Lots of corned beef………...and lots of potatoes from C & C's Catering !! And then we're going to have our very own Kitchen Band playing some Irish songs for your entertainment!! YAY !!! And just a reminder of Pot Luck protocol ……… ….bring a dish large enough to feed at least 12 peeps and you MUST sign up in advance on the Pot Luck sheet under a category of food that you intend to bring. The kind of food you bring is not written in stone so you can change your mind!! ;)
Last month, I told y'all I was working on the Directory and yeppers, it is done. Yay!! Of course, it is an on-going fluid piece but at the moment ………...it is as done as it's ever going to be. So. I have only printed a few copies so that any mistakes that have been made (although I'm sure Carol was very thorough in her proofreading!!) can be corrected. And since there may be a few mistakes, please please please bring them to my attention!! That way I can get them rectified and print the subsequent copies correctly. And again, this stays in-house and is only given out to our seniors. I've been asked by others to share our address list with outside lists but I absolutely refuse to.
Ok. So last month I said the recycling bin was going to be by the trash bins and after careful consideration, we've changed our minds as to where we are putting them…………….a woman's prerogative right?? :) So anyway, we have put the recycling bin on top of the mini-fridge in the dining room. We figured it was right where you get your water from so it makes sense.
And just one other thing…………...the recycling bin is ONLY for the water bottles from the Senior Center. Please please please do NOT bring in your bottles from home……………..since Julie and I are bringing these bottles home to our recycling bins, we would really prefer not to have to pay extra to our trash pick-up company for recycling. I'm sure you understand!! :) Thank You!!!
Book of Services
Julie is putting together a book of reputable and recommended service providers to keep in the office. If you have a handyman, cleaning service, lawn maintenance service, or small job trades company that you can recommend please call the office — or you can email Julie at: firstname.lastname@example.org Please make sure the company is happy to have the Referral!!!
Gleaners has received a grant from the State of Michigan to provide fresh produce to our seniors. What that means to you is this: on the 3rd Thursday of the month Senior Nutrition will deliver a batch of fresh produce and will be available to you to take home. It could be apples and grapefruit or it could be potatoes and onions, just depends on what they were able to get that month. And we will not know what they're getting until it arrives here at the center.......just so I don't get a bunch of questions on what is coming in!! :) And yes, this is at no cost to you. Enjoy!!
