Requirements for Electrical Service to Connect to the
Hamburg Township Sanitary Sewer System (HTSSS)
A Notice for Builders and/or Hamburg Township Property Owners:
Proper electrical service to the grinder pump station is the responsibility of the property owner. As such, you may choose any licensed electrician you wish to work with. The Township does not have a suggested electrician list, nor do we recommend any specific electricians.
Prior to the installation of your grinder pump station the electrical service or upgrade must be completed. This is to ensure proper start-up of the grinder pump. Also, this will prevent possible flooding of the pump controls caused by a lack of power supply to the grinder pump station. All new installations will require that the conduit going into the control boxes must be securely sealed. The manufacturer has notified the Township that there is a problem with beetles crawling in and shorting out the boards. You may use a caulking sealer to make them bug proof. If you have any questions regarding the type of sealant to use you may contact the DPW Field Superintendent, Don Miller, at (810) 231-8158 for assistance.
Power source for the grinder pump alarm panel can be supplied from the service panel inside of the home. Between the power source and the alarm panel, on the outside of the house, a disconnect panel needs to be installed. It may be a 50 AMP, 2 pole frame with two (2) 25 amp FRN fuses. Also, on the SIDEof the disconnect panel a lightning arrestor must be attached. A specification sheet is attached for the approved type to be used. All conduits into the panel must be sealed with an acceptable water and bug proof sealer. The alarm panel must be located within eye-sight of the grinder pump station.
If a meter tap is utilized, after authorization from the Livingston County Building Department, the type of wire from the Detroit Edison (DTE Energy) meter to the disconnect must match the existing type inside the Edison (DTE Energy) meter, i.e. Copper or Aluminum. Metals cannot be mixed. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact Brittany Campbell, Utilities Coordinator, at (810) 231-1000 ext. 210 or the DPW Field Superintendent, Don Miller at the Maintenance Garage at (810) 231-8158.
