Re: Requirements for Electrical Service to Connect to the

Hamburg Township Sanitary Sewer System (HTSSS)

To: Builder and/or Hamburg Township Property Owner:

Proper electrical service to the grinder pump control panel is the responsibility of the property owner. As such you may choose to complete the work yourself, after obtaining all required permits, or you may hire any licensed electrician you wish to work with. The Township does not have a suggested electrician list nor do we recommend any specific electricians.

Prior to the installation of your grinder pump station any necessary upgrades to your electrical service or circuit panel(s) must be completed. This is to ensure proper start-up and function of the grinder pump and to also avoid any damage to the controls or pump caused by a lack of power supplied to the station.

The power source for the grinder pump station is typically supplied from the service panel inside of the ho me. In some cases, power may be tapped directly from the service meter. A disconnect panel must be installed on the outside of the building. The Township recommends the use of a 60 amp, 2 pole fra me with two (2) 25 amp FRN fuses (air conditioner type) or a breaker style enclosure. A lightning arrestor must also be attached. This panel is needed for technicians to isolate power while servicing the grinder station and to protect the equipment from lightning strikes. All wires must be in conduit of suitable size, with all entry points into panels sealed with a water and bug proof sealer inside of the panel. The disconnect panel must be within eyesight of the grinder control panel. Likewise, the control panel must be within eyesight of the grinder pump station.

All power supply boxes from the home control panel and/or meter connection must be permitted and inspected by the Livingston County Building Depart ment. Wire types should not be mixed, i.e. copper to aluminum or vice versa. Wire sizing is indicated in the sketch that accompanies this letter.

Should you have any questions please call the DPW office at (810) 231-8158.

Thank You,

Don Miller

DPW Field Superintendent
