Short Term Rentals - Documents Required


First, you will need to familiarize yourself with the Hamburg Township Short Term Rental Ordinance found in Chapter 36: Article VI: Section 36-170.37.
Next you need to complete a Hamburg Township Land Use Permit and our Short Term Rental Application & Checklist Form.  This is an Annual Permit Requirement.How Do I Get A Copy Of My Property Site Plan

Short-term Rentals locations Require:

  1. Plot site map of parcel
  2. Floor plan of short-term rental unit, showing details of number of bedrooms. (Note: the maximum occupancy of Unhosted short-term rental units is 10 people but  Hosted units is 14 people).  Here is examples of floor plans (here).
  3. Airbnb rental announcement from internet (whole rental listing with maximum number of occupants allowed),
  4. Posted rules on door with map of property (see Short-Term Rental Brochure below),
  5. Completed both the Land Use Permit Application and the Short Term Rental Application & Checklist form (See links above),
  6. Payment of $40 (annually),
Before applying for a Short-term Rental Permit, ensure the home has the following:
  1. Working fire alarms and carbon monoxide alarms throughout the home.
  2. Place the local fire department contact phone number of 810-222-1100 on the rules sheet posted on the front door.
  3. Ensure the address is clearly marked on house (for fire and police emergencies)
  4. Fire egress and emergency exits as needed.
  5. Unexpired fire extinguishers.
  6. Site plan of parcel showing boundaries and posted rules on front door.
  7. If these items are not present for the onsite inspection, your short-term permit will be placed on hold until items are met.
