Huron River Chain of Lakes Water Improvement Special Assessment District (HRCLSAD)

Huron River Chain of Lakes Water Improvement
Special Assessment District (HRCLSAD)

The Washtenaw County Public Works Division  was requested by lake communities in northern Washtenaw and southern Livingston Counties to undertake a lake management program to control invasive weeds.   This project has provided improvements to the Chain of Lakes by controlling invasive and nuisance weeds through the application of herbicides to the water and mechanical weed harvesting.

Hamburg Township residents in the HRCLSAD are fortunate that the Washtenaw County DPW agreed to administer this two-county, four-township Special Assessment District. However, this is the last year that residents in Hamburg Township who live on Zukey, Strawberry and Gallagher Lakes will receive invasive weed and alga control on your lakes.

The Hamburg Township Board of Trustees has authorized the establishment of a replacement Special Assessment District for the control of invasive weeds and alga under State Act 188 of 1954. This is the same Citizen Initiated Petition Special Assessment that was used to establish the Sewer System in Hamburg Township and all of the Road Maintenance and Road Improvement Districts. Currently, we are attempting to determine your interest in the continuation of this Special Assessment District for the control of invasive weeds and alga.

Hamburg Township is currently attempting to determine property owners' interest in the continuation of this Special Assessment District for the control of invasive weeds and alga.

Residents can submit their preference in one of three ways:
*By completing the Online Response Form - click here.
*By e-mailing their preference to Hamburg Department of Technology at techservices@hamburg.mi.us.
*By completing the mailed letter  being sent to residents during March 2022  and returning it to Hamburg Township, 10405 Merrill Road, PO Box 157, Hamburg, MI  48139  via USPS.

If there is enough interest to move forward with the invasive weed and alga SAD, Hamburg Township anticipates holding another informational meeting for petition circulators at a date to be determined in the Hamburg Township Hall Boardroom.
